Race Start DetailsWHEN
The official start of the Copper Dog 150 is Friday, March 3rd in downtown Calumet at 6pm! Opening ceremonies kick off at 6pm with dog teams leaving the start gate around 7pm. Expect fireworks to start at 8:45pm. WHERE The start gate will be set up at the intersection of 5th Street and Portland Streets in downtown Calumet. The starting section of course runs north, down the length of 5th Street, from Portland to Pine Streets and you can catch the dogs from either side of the street the whole way! You can bring a chair to sit or just stand and watch! Many businesses welcome fans to come inside and warm-up during the event too, details at right! WHAT (RULES & TIPS) If you're coming to watch the race bring your family, bring your friends, dress warm, but please leave your pet pooch at home. No pets are allowed along the course. The race course (a snow road) is set up right through the middle of our downtown, so expect 5th Street to be closed, with no cross traffic allowed. Plan on parking a few blocks away and walking to the race, it's a busy day in town! There is ample parking at the Calumet Colosseum ice rink, just 2 blocks from the race start. Take advantage of all the fun activities and hospitality our businesses offer while you're in town! Cafe Rosetta 102 5th St Cafe Rosetta will be open late to keep you fueled up for the race with grilled cheese and puppy chow, plus their full regular menu! Enjoy a reuben, Aussie sausage roll, bowl of squash soup, or chili and mac n' cheese! Luigi's Bar Check out the Karoake, it's sure to be a full house and lots of fun! 510 Portland St Rocky's Bar 211 7th St Calumet Pizza Works 318 5th St Offshore Fish & Chips 431 5th St Warm up with a bowl of New England clam chowder or fresh Lake Superior whitefish! Also we can't say enough about their fish fry in general....superb! UP Pub 315 5th St Jim's Pizza 117 6th St L&L Bar 401 5th Shute's 1890 Saloon 322 6th St Grab an Iron Fish Copper Jacket cocktail while supplies last at the karaoke finals Friday night at Shute's! Ramona's Bakery 501 Elm St Desserts, hot pockets (pepperoni/cheese or ham/cheese), sausage gravy, oh my! Ramona's will be open until 8pm with some tasty treats just for you! Both Kitschy Spirit Records Superior Care Givers will be welcoming the community to stop in for refreshments and check out the race from their 2nd story perch! Copper Island Clay Works 201 5th Street Check out the recently renovated historic space, the beautiful pottery and get warm while you watch! Owner and ceramicist William Thompson recently moved in, so you'll get to see his shop pre-grand opening! Copper Country Associated Artists 205 5th Street Warm -up, watch the dogs and check out some beautiful work from local artists. Calumet Floral & Gifts 221 5th Street Watch the race from one of the greenest places in town! Calumet Floral will be open late to welcome the community inside for a warm up! Face painting from 5:30-7pm, $2/child, and complementary hot cocoa!
